The surgeon makes several small incisions around the shoulder and inserts the arthroscope to visualize the inside of the joint. Tiny instruments are then used to repair the torn rotator cuff without the need for large incisions.

The choice between open and arthroscopic repair depends on factors such as the size and complexity of the tear, the patient’s overall health, and the surgeon’s preference and expertise.

During rotator cuff surgery, the surgeon may remove any damaged tissue, reattach torn tendon ends to the bone using sutures or anchors, or perform other necessary repairs to restore the integrity of the rotator cuff. After the repair is completed, the incisions are closed, and the shoulder may be immobilized with a sling to aid in healing.

Recovery from rotator cuff surgery typically involves a period of immobilization followed by physical therapy to regain strength, flexibility, and range of motion in the shoulder. The duration of recovery varies depending on the extent of the surgery and individual factors, but it may take several months to achieve full recovery and return to normal activities.
