Septorhinoplasty

Septorhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that combines rhinoplasty (cosmetic surgery to reshape the nose) with septoplasty (surgery to correct a deviated septum). The septum is the cartilage and bone structure that divides the two nostrils, and a deviated septum occurs when it is crooked or off-center, causing nasal obstruction and breathing difficulties. It is performed to address both cosmetic concerns and breathing difficulties caused by a deviated septum. Several factors may indicate that a patient needs septorhinoplasty:
Nasal Obstruction: Patients experiencing chronic nasal congestion, difficulty breathing through the nose, or recurring sinus infections may have a deviated septum contributing to their symptoms. Septorhinoplasty can correct the septal deviation, improve nasal airflow, and alleviate breathing difficulties.
Deviated Septum: A deviated septum occurs when the thin wall (septum) between the nasal passages is crooked or displaced, blocking one or both nasal airways. This can result from congenital factors, nasal trauma, or previous nasal surgeries. Septorhinoplasty is often recommended to straighten the septum and improve nasal function.
Nasal Trauma: Patients who have experienced nasal trauma, such as a broken nose or nasal fracture, may develop structural abnormalities that affect both the appearance and function of the nose. Septorhinoplasty can address these issues by correcting nasal deformities and restoring proper nasal function.
Cosmetic Concerns: Patients seeking aesthetic improvement of the nose may also benefit from septorhinoplasty. This procedure allows for simultaneous correction of cosmetic imperfections, such as a dorsal hump, bulbous tip, or nasal asymmetry, while addressing functional issues related to septal deviation.
Nasal Congenital Deformities: Some individuals are born with nasal deformities or structural abnormalities that affect both the appearance and function of the nose. Septorhinoplasty can correct these congenital issues to improve nasal aesthetics and breathing.
Chronic Sinusitis: Chronic sinusitis, characterized by persistent inflammation of the sinuses, may be associated with a deviated septum or nasal obstruction. Septorhinoplasty can help alleviate symptoms of chronic sinusitis by improving nasal drainage and airflow.
Snoring or Sleep Apnea: In some cases, nasal obstruction caused by a deviated septum or other nasal abnormalities can contribute to snoring or obstructive sleep apnea. Septorhinoplasty may be recommended as part of a comprehensive treatment plan to address these sleep-related breathing disorders.
